Plant Now For Spring Colour

Spring is the season, when suddenly appear the day is getting longer, the sun a little more and sometimes you get into the garden, without freezing. More importantly, you can start cleaning up the garden, making the last bits of circumcision and look forward to plants come to life.

But of course, flowers have already started to show in the garden and there is nothing better than your garden under large parts of the daffodils and tulips.

I am a big fan of SpringLight bulbs, because they are the only safe way to early color in your garden. Plants such as Narcissus "February Gold" make what they say on the packaging, consistent flowering in early February and sometimes in January. You can get a whole range of varieties of Narcissus plants, flowers through to May. While you would be wise to wait until autumn for planting season can be much cheaper to buy one still dry onion bulbs in bloom at this time of year and plant them in the plantGarden. At the price you are maybe just a few and they pot into one. I would avoid hyacinths and tulips, because most do not come back the following year but daffodils for naturalizing, and the bulbs I plant in my window boxes go well in the garden as soon as it quit each year.

But there are many other great spring flowers that you can get at present and in future you will enjoy for years to come. Small garden shrubs such as Salix hastata 'Wehrhahnii "with deeppurple stems and silvery-gray catkins are large. A real favorite is Deutzia gracilis, with pure white flowers in upright clusters with bright green leaves and fragrant Daphne's amazing how worn Daphne x burkwoodii "Somerset" and daphne.

You can also perennial herbaceous plant plants now and they bloom in a few weeks. Early spring flowers such as some of the perennial geranium Geranium phaeum sometimes known as the grieving widow, and Symphytum Darmerapeltata, the latter being a large plant for edges of ponds, which we consider as wet winter's must be a winner.

And finally, what about planting a new tree this spring? We know as fall colors are great, but why not take a tree, which also gives you great spring blossom as many of the ornamental cherries. The Fuji cherry or Prunus incisa Prunus 'Ukon'. A little used large shrub or tree in the United Kingdom, the Redbud Cercis siliquastrum that if you fancy a planting, you shouldTake a look at the diversity siliquastrum Cercis 'Forest Pansy'. And with all of us interested in growing our own food, not about the apple family, and trees such as Malus "John Downie" because it's great forgotten spring bloom.

If you are out the window now and there is not a sign of color in your garden, there is no reason for it. Get in to one of the major local nurseries, we have or take a trip to a local open garden. Get inspired andGardening!
